Black Canyon
By NLT

Nevada Land Trust acquired the Black Canyon parcels (one 80 acres and one 120 acres) in 2012 for the purpose of conservation and protection of Greater Sage Grouse habitat in Black Canyon. We also worked with Nevada Bighorns Unlimited to purchase an additional 800 acres of Greater Sage Grouse habitat in Upper Black Canyon adjacent to the 120-acre parcel currently owned by Nevada Land Trust. This habitat type supports many sagebrush obligate species including habitat for the greater sage grouse, mule deer, and antelope.

Black Canyon Creek, which bisects the lower Black Canyon parcel, is an ephemeral creek supported by spring sources in upper Black Canyon. The creek is an important watering source for big game wildlife in the area, livestock grazing and upland game birds.

The overarching management goal for the Lower Black Canyon parcels is to protect the water sources, and maintain the sagebrush-steppe habitat in excellent condition.
